Insurance Coverage Information

Insurance plans may provide reimbursement for Eros Therapy; more commonly when it is prescribed as a medical necessity due to issues related to insufficient blood flow.  When reimbursed, the Eros Therapy device is usually covered under the Medical Supply or Durable Medical Equipment (DME) benefit.

The following ICD-9 codes may be appropriate when prescribing Eros Therapy:

It is the responsibility of the care provider to use the proper billing codes. SADMERC has given the Eros Therapy device the code L8499, miscellaneous prosthetic 
device. However, the Eros Therapy device has been reimbursed by private insurance 
companies under HCPCS codes E1399, L7900 and L8499 for individual consideration
with a letter of medical necessity.

Health Savings Account

Eros Therapy may be purchased using a health savings account.  Follow the normal process for paying for a product and/or submitting it for reimbursement to your health savings account.

Information about Eros Therapy 

Eros Therapy is prescribed for arousal and orgasmic disorders that are caused by, or related to, co-existing physiologic or medical conditions that result in diminished blood flow and sensation to the clitoris and genitalia.  Specific causes include: menopause, vascular disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, pelvic trauma and certain medications, including antidepressants or anticancer drugs.

Eros Therapy received FDA clearance-to-market in April 2000.  It is a non-pharmacological solution and the first and only FDA cleared-to-market for female sexual arousal and orgasmic disorders.
